Sleep Talking
Submitted by Mori on Wed, 12/29/2004 - 4:37pm. Bizarre
"Quick!!! Spray down at the bottom, where my butt is!!!"

~ this was shouted during sleep by a person who refused to explain it upon being awakened.

My mum still tells the story of how my sister once yelled for her in the middle of the night. She dashed through to our room to be told, "AFSP's just eaten my eggybread."
And my brother once very seriously asked her, "Mum, why are you a teapot?" We never figured out where that came from.
(Eggybread is just bread dipped in beaten egg and fried, btw. I don't know if there's another term for it.)

We call it french toast
Posted by hypoxic on Thu, 01/13/2005 - 8:51am.
Though at some points in time we may have called it freedom toast :P

French toast is (to my mind, anyway) bread dipped in a mixture of beaten egg, milk, and cinnamon, and fried. Cinnamon optional, I suppose, but the milk is a necessity.

My family has never added milk, but we do add egg and 3 other ingredients. Cinnamon, nutmeg, and the secret one that I'm sworn to secrecy about. *G*

Nice

Nice guess. But, fruit isn't the answer. :^P

42 is the answer.

Unfortunately, the question is "What is 6 times nine?"

Huh.

I always thought French toast was something different. Although I may have been thinking of Melba toast, now I come to think of it.

I hear, was invented for some weight conscious singer. Thin toast. No eggy.

I've decided that in my home, we are calling it "eggy bread" from now on. Just as we now call grated parmesan "shake-y cheese". Now all we need is a new term for syrup. Ideas?

I thought that was chocolate?

Possibly
Posted by Jon on Fri, 01/28/2005 - 8:57am.
I believe chocolate is an analogue of heaven, which could be the same as a state of mind. Depends.

Tree juice?
Posted by Intelligirly on Thu, 01/13/2005 - 1:15pm.
Or alternately, mapley blood. sugary goo?

I love Mike!

I would say...
Posted by Jon on Fri, 01/14/2005 - 9:03am.
Tree guts, as variation on tree juice. That's sure to get kids who are in their "love disgusting things" phase to ask for it by name.

ummmm....no. I don't think it ever crossed our minds to take our entendre outside of a bakery. Interesting....

Can I touch your bagel?
Maybe...
Posted by slugbuggy on Sun, 01/09/2005 - 1:46am.
this has to do with dreaming that you're a charcoal briquette, and imagining that someone's lit your butt on fire. Being a briquette, you'd probably have to give directions as to the precise location of the aforementioned butt, assuming you were requesting a bit of help with the extinguishing.

Maybe.
Gluttony

Dammit you ...

it's time for you to explain the "so ... it goes under the bay???" thingy. And it better not involve poop.

Under The Bay
Posted by Apple on Mon, 01/03/2005 - 5:09pm.
We here at In Passing like to use the phrase "So, it goes under the bay" as a distractionary device. A quick change of subject. It's from a long ago post for which I'm too lazy to go searching. Don't pay any attention when Monk asks you to free the hamsters and/or press Alt+F4 in order to accomplish some html tag or something. Just tell him to go stuff his froot bat.

Monk, I need to have my head examined for even clicking on that link, let alone, reading the damn thing. Mr Man, however, busted a gut (no pun intended).

Ah I get it ... and inside joke.
Hilarious! You spelled fruit "froot". Do you just find that spelling amusing, or is that another inside joke?
I have so much to catch up on.

Your call is important to us...
Posted by Jon on Wed, 01/05/2005 - 10:25am.
Geez, I'm on the spot now...
So I'll pick one that involves me, since I am selfish like that.

Ok, if intelligirly comes by again, you may hear me mention "my vwife". At one time, someone suspected that we were really the same person, as we share some common interests. (Language studies, theater, others)
At first, we were each other dopplegangers. (Myth of Germanic provenance, for spirits/creatures that look exactly like oneself.)

At one point, someone had the idea that we were "virtually married" - I can't remember exactly how that came about. It may have been my idea, which would explain why it is nonsensical. So, from "virtual wife", I abbreviated it to "vwife".

The other folks may remember better tidbits.
Or, there's always CITYBagel. :)

Hamsters freed. What next?

Monk has expressed a preference for all freed hamsters to be worn under snug cashmere sweaters.
(The original usage for "hamster" was "Is that a hamster in your pocket, or are you glad to see me?" but has since morphed into a more feminine reference. I'm sure peegee will look this up for you, if you like.)

I don't need to look it up.
Posted by paul on Sat, 01/22/2005 - 6:29am.
The other part of this was that the thread immediately preceeding or following the above referenced thread (not sure which) had a reference to "intentional jiggling". Both quotes were posted on the same day. Since both had sexual innuendoes attached, Monk combined them to make "hamsters" into a reference to boobs.

Oh ....

Looking up
Posted by peegee on Thu, 01/06/2005 - 8:04am.
Yeah, just pass it on to the grad student with too much idle time on his hands. I couldn't find an exact origin, but feed "hamsters site:www.inpassing.org" into google and you'll get loads of references. Also I'm not entirely sure that Monk would insist that freed hamsters be worn under snug cashmere sweaters...

Let them be free!
Posted by Apple on Fri, 01/07/2005 - 7:16pm.
Monk'll take 'em any way you want to offer them, I'm sure. Preferably in some sort of naughty librarian packaging would be my guess for favorite, though.

Next topic: pastries. *G*

Are each and every one of you insane, or have I taken too much migraine medication? ;)

Uhm... I like croissants.
Discuss.

Again, the original quote
Posted by paul on Sat, 01/22/2005 - 6:35am.
was about one girl asking another, "Can I touch your bagel?" This immediately generated lots of ribald comments, basically to the effect that girls have "bagels". Someone commented that then boys must have "croissants". It degenerated from there.

The pastry question...
Posted by peegee on Sat, 01/08/2005 - 3:12am.
Nah, not insane. Perhaps a prolonged exposure to each other has let some of us become... slightly idiosyncratic ? Well, let other people talk of the touching of certain pastries (hey, I like danish *g*), this time I'll just lean back and feed Herbrand some pickled cool points. (do those have an expiry date BTW ?)

Alright, that's it!
Posted by Mori on Sat, 01/08/2005 - 2:07pm.
I've got to get my fiance in here (we're getting married on the 15th). I need for him to be a part of this. Sometime I tell him this or that about comments made and he says, "you found our people".

Good tidings on your upcoming nuptials!

You would be joining a fine tradition of bringing relatives to In Passing...
igirly (steff's sister)
AppleMan (Apple's beau)

There must be others, but those are the most prominent in my memory.

I kinda belong to that too because I came here because of IGirly, and we're kinda like family.

Wow, kinda much?

So I'm sitting at work, reading the moses arms comment and realize my arms are slowly outstretching and the look in my eye is getting decidedly crazed and I'm mouthing the words, "My people!!"

I would be more worried if it wasn't my sister that inspired it.

I love Mike!

My people

I think I may have stumbled upon a new way to freak people out in public. Thanks y'all. The next time I am at the grocery store, I may just stand in front of the oranges and proclaim them to be "my people".
