"I'm sleep deprived, but I'm still beautiful. But I wonder if I only think that because I'm sleep deprived?"
"I'm on the phone." *annoyed*
--A woman and the man she was standing with, at a grocery store in LA
I suspect the same thing holds true for drunkenness as it does for sleep deprivation... changes your self perception a bit.
And on another subject, I wonder if I have selective hearing... filters of some sort. I went to LA with high hopes that I'd get some really cool atypical quotes, but then the first thing I heard was rather stereotypically LA.

"Yo, I'm downstairs."

"C'mon, I've got marshmellow peeps. The purple ones. Those are better than crack."
--A guy at the intercom for the building next door
Wow, someone should tell these folks that "Purple marshmallow peeps. Better than crack." would be a great slogan.

"We'll do a cover next... Sheryl Crow or Ani Difranco?"
"Ani!"
"Of course. This is Berkeley."
--A singer (in the band Raining Jane that was having an improptu concert on Sproul Plaza,) at least 5 memebers of the audience, and the drummer
It's not often that I have time to pay attention to the musicians that randomly play on Sproul. Today though, I was wandering by after class, and I was drawn to stop and listen a while. Usually my musical tastes run toward rock, and while I really like Tori Amos, I don't tend to listen to many other female vocalists or groups. But Raining Jane was mellow, a little funky, and they looked like they were having a lot of fun. I liked it. "One Way" was a cool song with a slightly retro sound, and "Summer" was a little more soulful and sad.
Oh, while speaking of bands on MP3.com, I might as well mention the song, "I Need a Tear," by the band One Room Planet. I found the song by accident a long time ago, and I haven't heard of the band since. But that one song has a really gripping combination of clever lyrics and raw emotion that made me really like it.

"She might not be home."
"Shitty. I wanted her advice on this. Maybe she's just in the bathroom and can't hear the buzzer."
"You don't want advice though, you just want her to tell you that it's ok that you don't want him to love his ex anymore, even though you still love yours."
"No no. It's not even the same thing. I still love Joey the way I've always loved him, like how Andie loved Duckie. I broke up with Joey because that was the only way I loved him."
--Two girls at the intercom for the building next door
Nothing like a little talk of love and John Hughes movies after 1am.

And for those not attending Cal, a bit of info -- Soda Hall is the home of the computer science department. The computer labs are in the basement, and the whole floor has a near tangible amount of tension, caused by the atmosphere of caffination, stress, and coding.
