"I can't believe Ebert hated that movie that much. He gave friggin 'She's All That' like 2.5 stars. I mean, as a dirty old man, he should have some appreciation for 'Charlie's Angels!'"
--A girl in passing on Blake St, ranting
Ok, I'll admit, I saw the movie.
And it was pure fluff, and probably a setback for feminism on some basic level. But it sure was sparkly fluff, and on the surface it looked a hell of a lot like girls kicking ass. If you don't expect it to be profound, (and frankly, one would be awfully silly to expect that from a movie with this premise anyway) you'll see it as good fun.
On a side note, have you noticed how everyone has their favorite Angel?

With a name like "Ebert" I don't think he has the right to criticise ANYTHING.

My favorite angel was Kate Jackson. She was always so cool in every situation. In the new movie, Lucy takes the blue ribbon. Great fighting choreography. Hope there is a sequel.

American film reviewers know nuffink. They either wax orgasmic about Hollywood production-line shite, or get all po-faced about shameless daftness.

Charlie's Angels is one of the most gleefully silly films I've ever seen. Of course it's not a satire, it's a piss-take. Satire is a serious artform with a long and literate history that seeks to make meaningful comment on the world in which we live. Piss-takes take the piss. Do you see?

Charlie's Angels is a romp. A caper. A bloody good laff. It's not art, it possesses not a single ounce of seriousness, but it does have Cameron Diaz dancing in a very small pair of pants. This is a Good Thing.

Ebert appears to have tried to review the film in a serious manner. Now he looks like a prat. This is the power of frivolity.

But then I liked the Flintstones movie, so perhaps I should just cut down on the drug intake.

I hate movie critics! Movies should just be taken at face value---that is, for entertainment! Why must ppl always search for deep meaning in a movie? It's like looking for deep meaning in....a merengue--or in popcorn! C'mon, it's meant to be fluff and air, so we can temporarily escape the concrete realism and solidity of day-to-day life!
That said, my fave angel (among Charlie's) was Cameron Diaz. She's just so cute (esp in her little boy's underwear, wiggling her ass *G*). She was beautiful, but sweet and almost naive, but not stupid. I liked it.

I actually think Charlies Angels enforces Feminist ideals. It did put women in a power position (the random kicking of asses). It did sort of stereotype the girls (thin, sexy, feminine), but hey, they needed a way to get the other 49% of the population to the movie theater. My only problem is the friggin' theater charges 12 dollars a head to get in. THEN they have the nerve to charge 9 dollars for a Micro pizza thing. Give me a break...
Ebert needs to give a review on the damn prices of movies these days. Of course it is nice to see a movie on a screen that has twice the square-footage as my house...

Oh... My...God! I should be ashamed of myself for even a temporary lapse in memory, or dare I say, sanity.

YES! David BOREANAZ is the Number #1 Angel of all time. Quite the lickable boy, isn't he?

Pardon me, I need a mop for all this drool. ;)

I've always felt sorry for the guy that goes on with Ebert now...He always seems to be shot down. And I'd just like to say that "She's All That" was the worst movie ever. Worse than "The Cable Guy."
Kate--"Tank Girl" rocks! That was one of the movies that was always playing in my dorm's common room last year. That and Rocky Horror...

Does Ebert even give "stars?" I thought he built a career around the whole "thumbs up/thumbs down" thing. . . maybe he's still in mourning over Siskel. Give him a break.

I love movies with excess estrogen...I figure a good girls' night movie-a-thon would feature the Alien trilogy (the fourth one made me sick to my stomach), Tank Girl, and Charlie's Angels, followed by some martial arts lessons to rid us all of the urge to go out there and kick the stuffing out of some poor, unsuspecting guy.
