An ad for a "Do it yourself" storage place -- you know, the kind that's just basically rows of tiny garages -- boasting "climate controlled areas for wine storage."
Sheesh, only in Marin.

I grew up in marin, and some of my fondest memories are of stomping on grapes with my bare feet. but yea we had a large wine cellar.

After my initial surprise, I wondered 'Who the hell would put their wine in storage?'

Actually, not only in Marin (and i have no idea where that is) here in little Adelaide in Australia the service is offered. In places like Singapore and Hong Kong where space is a premium and the storage conditions terrible, they sell cabinets for your home (hard to have a cellar in an apartment). easier than digging a pit in the garage for the purpose as i have just done.

Could be an amature wine maker -- although I must admit, I was thinking it was designed for Marin-ites whose wine collections had outgrown their homes.
And I must say by way of a disclaimer, that I've spent a lot of time in Marin, it's a beautiful area, and I enjoy visiting, so my impression is based on real people, not stereotypes.

Or maybe what I meant was, it lacks a certain snobbishness...

Would any self-respecting amateur wine-maker really store the product of their labor in a miniature garage? It lacks a certain dignity doesn't it?
