You sayin' I gots poor impulse control?? Well are ya?? Durn city fella... I can control my brother in-law's Impulse car jest fine, I gots one hand on the wheel and the other on my 'brew'. (Well Pepsi in my case, but that ruins the image).

Yeuh know what's we calls gun control around these heare parts, don't ya? That's when you use two hands to keep from gettin' off target.

Heh. That's pretty funny, Paul. I particularly like the cleavers as the hall of mirrors...nice touch. *Grin*

And no, ParU, the robot is to provide a target for those with poor impulse control. The rude gestures are for encouraging them.

And besides...who doesn't want their own animatronic replica? I mean...just for the creepy value, if nothing else.

Cube- you know that a lightning strike can kill a computer by power surge, right? The idea is that these guys can cause their very own "lightning strike" at will by plugging sensitive parts of the computer which normally get 5V DC into a standard 120V AC wall socket.

POOF! No more ethernet card, or other devices that they've rigged for this. Chances are pretty good that it will also fry other parts of the computer.

Do not piss off the IT department or they may strike your machine with lightning.

Michael, the first version I ever heard of that song was on Bryan Ferry's " The Bride Stripped bare"
But it was a shortened version and the words were altered slightly.
As mentioned below Loreena Mckennit's version is pretty good too ( she also has a very cool version of " God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" for those of you who make eclectic christmas cd's like me)
My Favorite version is by a group called The Freemen.
There's another version I have some where that I'll track down
although I think it's Leo Mcaffrey who did a great version of another old sad song " The Bard of Armagh"

The version on Loreena McKennitt's Elemental is quite good, I think - it's not actually her singing it, but rather some guy I have not heard of, while she does the descant. It's very nicely done.

Tim, I do love them sad ol' songs. Carrickfergus is one of the saddest songs I've ever heard, and therefore one of my favorites. I've only heard Van Morrison sing it; I'm more familiar with the Chieftains' instrumental versions. Can you recommend any other recording(s)?

BB-- it all depends what you're using. If it's Internet Explorer, I'm gonna guess you hit [Alt][V][X][Enter] and if it's Nets(c)rape you hit [Alt][V][Z][Enter]. Which means you went into the view pull-down menu, text size function and selected largest. Just go back in there & set it at something you like.

Of course, it's been 3 hours & "Help" may have told you that already. Hooray for the nonsequitor

Because it's Friday (my last Friday of the school year!), and because I just got a 4-CD set of music from Final Fantasy 8 (yay!), here's my song contribution. (Lyrics from the booklet that came with the CDs, so if they're wrong it's either a typo on my part or the book's fault.)

Eyes On Me
Nobuo Uematsu

Whenever sang my songs
On the stage, on my own
Whenever said my words
Wishing they would be heard
I saw you smiling at me
Was it real or just my fantasy
You'd always be there in the corner
Of this tiny little bar

My last night here for you
Same old songs, just once more
My last night here with you?
Maybe yes, maybe no
I kind of liked it your way
How you shyly placed your eyes on me
Oh, did you ever know?
That I had mine on you

Darling, so there you are
With that look on your face
As if you're never hurt
As if you're never down
Shall I be the one for you
Who pinches you softly but sure
If frown is shown then
I will know that you are no dreamer

So let me come to you
Close as I wanted to be
Close enough for me
To feel your heart beating fast
And stay there as I whisper
How I loved your peaceful eyes on me
Did you ever know
That I had mine on you

Darling so share with me
Your love if you have enough
Your tears if you're holding back
Or pain if that's what it is
How can I let you know
I'm more than the dress and the voice
Just reach me out then
You will know that you are not dreaming

Darling, so there you are
With that look on your face
As if you're never hurt
As if you're never down
Shall I be the one for you
Who pinches you softly but sure
If frown is shown then
I will know that you are no dreamer

Some of the wording is a little odd, but it fits the music. In the game, it's the love theme of the two main characters (Squall and Rinoa), but the wording makes it sound as if it was written by a character in the past (Julia), which would tie together the two timelines. (Most of the time, you play Squall, but occasionally Squall and his friends fall asleep, and you control people from the past. Squall and company remember what happens there as dreams.)

...Sorry, but I'm happy about it.

When it comes to recordings of operas and such, it's all about the cast. And there is a lot of mediocre stuff out there. For conductors, stick with Georg Solti and James Levine. My fave soprano is Renee Fleming and I like Samuel Ramey for basses. Frankly, I don't really listent to much opera, but my brother's an operatic bass (in training), so every once in a while I get the skinny on the opera world.

I saw Zauberfloete and Figaro in Vienna... happy memories.

I think Voi che sapete is from the third act, tim, but I learned it just as an aria, and not as part of a role, so I'm not sure. I was once told I'd make a good Cherubino, but I decided against opera as a career-- too competitive.
