*whew*
Looks like things are working again.
I'm keeping the ads off until bla-bla can find a solution for their javascript banners not crashing netscape browsers, or until the termination of our contract.

In more intersting news...
The final results of the contest are up at last! Thanks to everybody who participated in giving me my new name.

And in still more news...
Kevin of Fury is starting a web ring for bloggers who are in Berkeley, and IP will be included. Check out his page (which you should do anyway,) and drop him a line if you'd like to participate.

Umrguy, I read a great quote once that said rules exist for those who don't know how to get around them. *evil smile*
Not that I advocate disobeying your school's net policies, but for those so inclined, there are many ways to still use napster around a firewall. Click the link for one way; googlesearch for "Napster around firewall," and you'll probably find more.
All of this is purely hypothetical, of course. It really isn't nice to hose the university network to get music you could buy. (Though I must say Napster is marvelous for getting live recordings and other things not availible for purchase.)

Maybe I've had my head in the sand, but what's going on with Napster? I haven't been able to use it here at school, 'cuz they put up a firewall to prevent it.

(And Mike, internal CD-RWs are better - they're typically faster than the externals, I seem to recall hearing that externals can only operate at about half the speed of an internal because of the way it has to be connected. Although, if you're in a situation where you'd have to get an external, I understand, it's just that I'd personally recommmend an internal.)

Thanks, JP-- but surely you don't expect me to take their word? I figure that they'll start charging sometime beforehand-- sneak it in earlier so as to maximize profits. But, like I said before, I'm just cynical and paranoid like that.
I guess I should actually address the topic at hand-- the name change. It's *short*! Woo-hoo! It's quick and easy for the lazy to type-- and isn't that what matters most?

Mike - apparently Napster won't be starting to charge until June/July. Time enough to download, well, everything by anyone. Ever.

Thanks for giving "Clio" a chance! I'll be honoring "Eve", though. "All About Eve" is a wonderful movie. I could so be her. Darn my conscience.

I'm glad for the lack of ads, as it loads about 1000% faster(only a partial exaggeration).

I suppose IP is all about you, Eve, but I am suspicious at the sudden jump in that entry's votes. Not bitter about my choice losing... it is a clever vocal pun, though.

Hey, Napster's still free, right? I haven't been there in about a week and a half, and I've had this weird feeling that they'd start charging before the month was out. I only need it to stay free for a few more weeks or so. I realized yesterday that I have just enough money to buy myself an external CD-RW by the end of this week; if I can get my hands on one of those, buy a 100 CD spindle, and go to Napster through my ethernet connection...

(*seven minutes of insane giggling*)

Thanks, SG (I'm gonna hold onto that one for as long as I can), for fixing the Netscape thing. And I thought it was only my archaic 233MMX that has been crashing.
And, yeah, I'm willing to do my part in a PayPal account or whatever if it means this site will stay up.

Okay, so the ads are down. Yay! So, Eve (nice new name ;-)), do you have a paypal account or some such we can start dumping money into, to keep them down for good?
