"I was afraid to put my arm around him . . . I mean, are we allowed to touch the monks?"
~A co-worker at the newspaper, in reference to a picture of her with a Buddhist monk

This page discourages female contact. This one goes into more detail along the same lines: it's okay so long as the touching isn't lust-based, but leans more to the "better safe than sorry" side of things.

...Aand this page misspells "celibate." Great job, Chicago Tribune.

So, to answer her question, it was probably best not to. I myself don't really like it when strangers glom on to me, but it's nothing religious: I'm just a personal space freak.

amen, mike. "personal space freaks, unite!" heh.

oddly, although i am a personal space freak as well, i don't at all mind being hugged as long as it's someone i actually KNOW. not oddly, i'm never sure when it's ok to initiate such a thing myself. sad. and i'd never hug a monk. who knows what sordid places that could lead.

sure, it might be fun, but i'd want a lawyer to review the contract first. no, a different one.

Lmao

You are awesome, steff. Way to be specific on which lawyer. :) I love getting hugs, but I'm always a little weirded out by the ones that just don't end. It is during those you kind of get the hint they like you, but not in a "friend" sort of way. I'm vaguely confused about what to do during those long, awkward hugs. I like quick, tight ones better (most of the time).
