the heck is this world coming too? Who wouldn't want to date a Mafia chick? Think about all the interesting loot you could get? Free Italian meals, loans, and jobs. Everybody wins!

You'd date one?

I have such mixed feelings about that book. And no, I didn't have to paste the link to figure out the reference.

I mean, that librarian VR thing was entirely employed as a narrative device for the sole purpose of allowing the author to pontificate for page after page after page, expounding upon Sumerian history. I yawned. Repeatedly. And the relationships between the characters meshed together too easily.

But it was still a decent read. Once. Pretty much satisfied my B-Level Science Fiction Writers quota for the next several years.

Hmm, apparently I saved my mixed feelings for "The Diamond Age". I *love* the 1st book, but not its sequel. The skewering of suburban mores is spot on, which I enjoyed having been born and raised in a 'burb.

I liked the pontification about Sumerian history; but then again, I did get a Latin degree, so my opinion is entirely suspect. :)

I would! But I'm not a teenaged girl, and I'd be lying, so I guess the statement holds ;)

the Mafia in England, MistaCat? Or is it, as James Bond used to deal with, the Union Corsce (sp?)? Out here in Calif. the gangs are much more violent, usually Asian or Hispanic and not, shall we say, nice people.

What a great way to get rid of unwanted admirers! Nobody wants to stalk a mafia chic.
