To get back on-point, though: Fantastic Four had to get past the basic silliness of itself (I never did understand the phenomenon of silly putty heroes like Mr Fantastic and Plastic Man; and the idea of a villain putting on a suit of armor and a cloak and attempting world domination because he has some scars--instead of spending that money on plastic surgery--is a little off the radar, then there's the whole wonky science aspect, oh, and the stupid catchphrases--"Flame on!", "It's clobberin' time!"--which they inexplicably decided to keep for the movie), and for me, it failed. Deciding Doom was actually made of metal and giving him super-powers instead of putting him in armor and giving him weapons didn't much help. And the bad science used to defeat him just made me shake my head. It wasn't bad enough to be funny, just enough to be mediocre. Where the original Punisher at least was a guilty pleasure, Fantastic Four was no pleasure at all. YMMV.
