Fake Holiday

I'm a happily married woman, but I've always considered Valentine's Day to be a total crock. Besides the fact that I've got about as much romance in my soul as the average water buffalo, I hate how it pushes the diamond/wedding industry standard of "spend lots of money on traditional stuff or else you're a lousy significant other" and, even more than that, I hate how it depresses friends and collegues who are single or who have lost their SOs to whatever cause.

My custom tagline for emails yesterday: "Happy Hallmark Day -- kick a cupid, stomp a (non-native) rose, shove some chocolates down the garbage disposal."

On the other hand, I'm happy for everyone who does like it and did have a good Valentine's Day. To each his-or-her own!

Cheers!
