A discussion of normality is certainly appropriate here. I too dread the "man in socks" moment and so try to avoid it whenever possible. But sometimes I forget and spend a brief moment as The Man In Boxers And Socks. Which makes me think of scenes like the David Hyde Pierce moment in "Down With Love."
